← Back to BeatBox

All changes and improvements to BeatBox, newest first. Each entry shows the version, the deployment date and time, and whether it is a new feature or a fix.

v1.9 Latest version Feature 2026-10-23 13:07

Mobile update: the app now adapts properly to phone screens. Form fields use a 16 px font on small screens, so mobile browsers no longer zoom in when you tap a field, buttons get a larger touch area, and wide grids, tables and long addresses wrap instead of running off the page. The donate button moves to the middle of the left edge so it no longer covers the footer links. The app also leaves beta: from version 1.0 the beta badge is gone.

v0.3 Feature 2026-10-17 05:10

Add any instrument as a channel: the built-in kit grew from eight voices to twenty, now covering rimshot, ride and crash cymbals, a mid tom, low and high congas, low and high bongos, claves, woodblock, shaker and tambourine. Use the instrument palette to add a channel (up to 24), remove or reorder channels with the row controls, or restore the standard kit in one click. The channel list is saved with your beat, so an exported file brings its kit back when you load it — and older files still open. The pattern model is now covered by 26 unit tests.

v0.1 Feature 2026-10-16 18:40

First beta release of BeatBox. Build a beat in your browser: click the steps in the 16-step grid or tap the drum pads to play a synthesised kit — kick, snare, clap, closed and open hats, two toms and a cowbell. Adjust the tempo and volume, start from one of four presets (Basic, Four on the Floor, Breakbeat, Hip-Hop), and watch the playhead highlight the current step while the look-ahead scheduler keeps the groove tight. The pattern model is pure and covered by 19 unit tests, and every drum is generated live with the Web Audio API — no samples, no uploads. Save or load your beat as a JSON file, and clear the whole grid or a single row for a fresh start. Everything stays in your browser, so the app is marked green (Local). Available in English, German, French, Italian and Spanish.
